Every Piece Has Its Own Story

Everything at Shop of Hard Knots is made by hand, often from natural, reclaimed, or salvaged wood. That’s what makes each piece one of a kind, and it also means no two will be exactly alike.

What to expect from natural wood

Wood is a living material, and reclaimed wood carries its history with it.

You may see variations in:

  • Color, grain, and texture
  • Knots, voids, cracks, and checking
  • Dimensions and shape
  • Bark and other natural features

These are part of the wood’s character, not flaws in the work. Where it’s appropriate and practical, I keep these features, because they’re often what makes a piece special.

What to expect from handcrafted work

Each piece is shaped, engraved, and finished individually, so small differences in size, shape, color, texture, and finish from piece to piece are normal. That’s the difference between handmade and mass-produced.

Photos and custom orders

Product photos show the piece as it was made, but your piece may differ in grain, color, and detail from the one pictured. For personalized or commissioned work, I’ll work with you on the design, though the wood itself will always have its own say.
